‘BLUE2’ is a collection of high-end objects made from the waste material of old swimming pools. By applying craft and attention designer Birgit Rijsmus aims to revalue an otherwise worthless and polluting material.



After spending lots of hours learning to work the material and developing her handicraft, Birgit realized that human labour can be the single most important factor of adding value to waste materials. The techniques she developed specifically for this project transform swimming pools into objects to be admired and cherished. This project highlights the importance of shifting our perception of waste and helps us to start seeing it as a sustainable source that offers innovative possibilities.
